Yoga

Yoga is an ancient healing science/philosophy/practice that literally means 'UNION'. The principle behind yoga is to create an environment that allows the body/mind/spirit to make a deep connection. In our Western culture we have not been given the tools to become 'one' with ourselves. Yoga gives you that opportunity. Yoga brings AWARENESS. Using asanas (physical postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) you can learn to overcome stress, decrease blood pressure, regulate your heart beat, improve flexibility, increase strength and stamina, improve health and feel empowered like you've never felt before!

Hatha yoga is physical yoga. I teach Deepak Chopra's 7 Spiritual Laws of Yoga. It is a comprehensive form of hatha yoga that incorporates the 7 naturally occurring laws of nature, the 7 energy centers (chakras), the integration of mind and body using mantras (repeated statements) and sound (vibration) associated with each of the 7 laws and connecting to each of the 7 chakras. Each class includes: Breathwork (pranayama), Body Poses (asanas), Energy Centers (chakras), Sound Vibration (mantras), and Deep Relaxation (shavasana).

Breathwork

Prana or breath is the essence of life. Breathwork involves awareness using a variety of techniques that may be used to expand, calm, contain, clear, and/or invigorate.

Breath unites body movement with the mind.

Body Poses

Asanas are the body postures most familiar to hatha yoga. It is important to make note here that touching your toes or wrapping your leg around your neck are not essential to doing yoga. What IS important is DOING what you are ABLE to do - what YOUR body ALLOWS you to do. Your body NEEDS to MOVE. Asanas provide the body with a mechanism to physically release tension and stress held in the muscle, ligaments and tendons of the joints.

Asanas can be used to specifically target a body area that needs healing, release, or attention. They can be used to help in disease prevention as well as to overcome symptoms of depression, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, ulcers, lack of circulation, thyroid, and other hormonal issues.

Physical forms that extend, release, and strengthen the body. Combined with breath … the essence of yoga!

Energy Centers

Chakras are energy centers in the body. They are often referred to as vortexes where energy channels intersect along the mid-section of the body from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. There are 7 chakras that can be identified by location, meaning, sound vibration, mantra and color. The image of opening these chakras is that of a closed lotus flower releasing petals skyward and then falling to the side in full bloom.

Chakra work is POWERFUL and TRANSFORMING.

Sound Vibration

Mantra is an ancient science of sound and the power of words. A mantra is a pure sound vibration that represents a sound found in nature. Movement creates vibration and vibration creates sound. Each of the 50 letters of the Sanskrit alphabet is a pure vibrational sound (a bija or seed) that corresponds directly to the body. Using combinations of these sounds (or words) we are able to affect the body/mind connection in a real, scientifically proven way. There are specific sounds and mantras associated with each of the 7 chakras.

Be prepared for INCREDIBLE results with PROFOUND sensations.

Deep Relaxation

The 'best' part of yoga. Full, complete relaxation usually performed at the end of a session giving the body a chance to RECEIVE all that good benefits that the session has offered. Often Shavanasa involves a visual meditation or sound and then silence.

Absolutely the MOST ESSENTIAL part of the yoga experience!
