Meditation is a form of raja yoga. It involves choice and present moment awareness. A meditator CHOOSES to be present over and over again. Meditation involves PRACTICE - training your ATTENTION to let go of thought or to focus intention on one thought/event/sensation. There are many form of meditation practice. A few of the more popular ones: TM (Transcendental Meditation), PSM (Primordial Sound Meditation), Focused Meditation, Walking Meditation.
I am trained in Primordial Sound Meditation (PSM). Deepak Chopra teaches this form of practice. The idea behind this practice is that there are a finite number of sounds in the universe and that we are uniquely tuned to the sound that we heard upon our birth into this physical form. That unique sound is determined by your date of birth, time of birth and place of birth. I am NOT a certified PSM teacher, but am a practicing member of the PSM community and teach a weekly meditation group at the Yoga-Bungalow in San Juan Capistrano.
